Acrylic on Canvas
Artist's Statement
Creativity has been a beautiful, even therapeutic, experience for most of my adult life. It began as a meditative practice, coloring mandalas and learning the history behind the colors I chose. Then I moved to painting with acrylics, exploring the medium for the past sixteen years, gradually homing in on my mostly abstract style. I am a self-taught artist and paint predominantly to express emotion. Experimenting with the flow of color and contrast is what drives my process as each piece unfolds.
As I explain in my book, writing and painting have a symbiotic relationship for me. Painting mirrors where I am in life – curious, open, and willing to experiment. And with writing as a reliable tool for processing emotions, I can step into the painting experience with more freedom.
